TNEA 2025 Rank List Preparation
It is important for students to know that the rank list for the TNEA counselling process is based on scaled marks out of 200. This is done to help the overall ranking process. There is a lot more weightage in the Maths section of the exam, while the Physics and Chemistry sections share the same amount of weightage. The weightage is as follows:
- Mathematics: 100 Marks
- Physics (50) + Chemistry (50) = 100 Marks
TNEA 2025 Rank List Normalization
Normalization is part of the TNEA 2025 ranking system. Normalization is done to help equalize the secured marks by students across different boards. Normalization helps fit students from different boards into one common rank list. This helps group students from different boards under the state board of Tamil Nadu. It also helps level the playing field for students’ overall ranking.
For example, if the highest total marks secured by students from the Tamil Nadu state board is 100 and from another board is 90, then both the highest marks will still be considered to be 100. If a student scores 60 marks in Chemistry when the first marks in the same board is 90 for Chemistry, the 60 marks scored will be considered as 66.66%. Students can refer to the following equation for the same:
(100 x 60)/90 = 66.66%

TNEA Rank List Inter-Se Merit
In certain cases, students score the same marks on the TNEA merit list. The method for determining the rank then follows the following priorities:
- % of marks in Mathematics.
- % of marks in Physics.
- % of marks in an optional subject.
- % of total marks scored in class 12th.
- Student’s overall date of birth. Elder students will be given preference.
- The TNEA random number assigned. The number with the higher value will be given preference.
