Srinagar, May 8, 2025 – Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have ordered the closure of all educational institutions in several districts as a precautionary measure. The decision aims to ensure the safety and security of students and staff during this period of heightened alert.
According to official statements, all schools, colleges, and universities in the districts of Baramulla, Kupwara, and Gurez will remain closed on May 9 and 10. Additionally, educational institutions located around Awantipora and the Srinagar Airport have also been directed to shut down temporarily.
The closures follow India's launch of "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, targeting alleged terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. In retaliation, Pakistan attempted drone and missile strikes across multiple Indian cities, including areas in Jammu and Kashmir. Indian defense systems successfully intercepted these attacks.
In light of these developments, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has also ordered the closure of educational institutions in the Jammu division's five border districts—Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch—on May 9.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as necessary. Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels and adhere to safety advisories issued by local authorities.
