Every year, Delhi University attracts thousands of hopeful students aiming to secure a seat at one of India’s most popular universities. But looking at it realistically, amidst the rush of CUET-UG registration, students frequently forget to include DU as a preference.
Whether it was an oversight, confusion, or simple misjudgment, the consequence can feel like a missed opportunity of a lifetime. But here’s the good news, Delhi University has opened a door for those students who thought the chance was gone.
If you’re someone who forgot to choose DU during your CUET-UG registration, don’t panic. You still have a chance.
Delhi University Reopens Admission Window via CSAS Portal
Delhi University has announced that candidates who did not mention DU during CUET-UG registration can now apply for admission through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) portal. This information was provided during a recent webinar on admissions, where university representatives directly addressed a number of student issues.
Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions, clarified that students in this situation can still be considered for admission. All they need to do is register through the CSAS portal and follow the steps outlined.
Understanding the CSAS Admission Process
The CSAS portal was created so that the admissions process becomes easy and to eliminate the common uncertainty that students encounter. The process is divided into two clear phases:
Phase 1: Personal and Academic Information
In the first phase, students must provide their personal and academic information, including Class 12 results and any applicable papers.
Phase 2: Course and College Preferences
The second phase begins when the CUET results are announced. This is when students can log into the portal again to select their preferred courses and colleges within DU.
Whether you're from a reserved category, belong to ECA (Extra Curricular Activities), or are applying under the sports quota, this portal is also the place where students apply under specific categories.
Flexibility for Category Change during CUET-UG
Another update about flexibility DU has offered regarding category changes, which can be really helpful for students is that if a student chose the 'unreserved' category during CUET-UG but now has a valid document for a reserved category, they can apply through the CSAS portal.
However, once a category is altered and submitted to CSAS, it cannot be changed again. Students are recommended to double-check all information and documents before submitting.
CSAS Communication Details
Students can provide an alternate email address and phone number while registering for CSAS. However, it is crucial to note that all official communications will continue to be delivered to the email and phone numbers given during CUET-UG registration. DU considers the details filled during CUET-UG as the primary source of information for contact.
This means: keep an eye on those inboxes and SMS alerts, even if you're using a different number or email now.
DU Seat and Programme Combinations
For the academic year 2023–24, Delhi University is offering approximately 71,000 seats across 78 undergraduate programmes in 68 affiliated colleges. These range from BA programme combinations to popular standalone courses like B.Com, B.Sc., and more.
Students applying under ECA and Sports categories should also take note, DU has:
- 26 sports/game categories, and
- 14 ECA categories, including NSS and NCC.
Candidates applying under these supernumerary quotas will first be considered for regular seats. After the performance trials, a second merit list will be generated, allowing students to select their favorite seat based on their performance.
So, What Should You Do Now?
If you forgot to select DU during CUET-UG, this should be included in your next steps:
Head over to the CSAS portal and register and fill in your details carefully. After the results are announced, log in again to choose your favorite course and college. Keep checking your CUET-registered email and number for any updates from DU.
Why This is Important to DU
This move from Delhi University isn’t just a procedural update, it’s a recognition of the fact that mistakes happen, and students deserve a fair chance. The education system, particularly at the national level, must accommodate for human mistake, and DU has taken a significant step in this regard.
The introduction of a well-structured CSAS portal and the opportunity to update categories make the process inclusive, student-friendly, and adaptive to real-world challenges students face during such high-pressure seasons.
Final Thoughts on CUTE-UG Registration
The CSAS portal is your second opportunity if you were one of the students who forgot to include Delhi University in your CUET-UG registration; make good use of it.
Make sure all of your paperwork is in order, stay informed about official pronouncements, and above all, don't let any one mistake stop you.
