Maharashtra HSC Syllabus 2025-26 is provided by the Maharashtra board for Science, Commerce, and Arts streams. Check the article thoroughly to know the names of chapters included in each subject. Continue reading for more details. The Maharashtra Board HSC Science includes Physics, Chemistry and Biology as the main subjects. The theory exam for all subjects will be of 70 marks and practical exam will be of 30 marks. For Maharashtra HSC Commerce, you will have to study Accountancy, Economics, and Business Studies as main subjects. In Commerce, 80 marks will be for theory exams and 20 marks will be for practical exams. Similarly, students can choose to study History, Geography, Political Science, and Psychology in Arts stream. 1. Reading Skills

- Unseen Passages - Comprehension Questions - Note-making and Summary Writing

This section enhances students’ ability to understand and interpret unseen passages. Passages may be narrative, descriptive, discursive, or factual. Students will be tested on their capacity to analyze central ideas, infer meanings, identify themes, and summarize information logically. Note-making teaches concise writing, organization of ideas, and effective use of abbreviations and symbols.

2. Writing Skills

- Formal Letters: Letters to the Editor, Job Applications, Complaints, Enquiries, Placing Orders - Informal Letters - Article Writing - Speech Writing - Report Writing - Story Writing

Writing skills focus on developing clarity, accuracy, and creativity in expression. Students will learn to draft both formal and informal letters, keeping in mind correct format, tone, and purpose. Article writing develops the ability to express opinions and ideas on contemporary topics. Speeches enhance persuasive skills, while report writing strengthens factual and objective presentation. Story writing nurtures imagination, coherence, and proper narrative style.

3. Grammar & Language Proficiency

- Tenses - Voice (Active & Passive) - Reported Speech - Clauses (Noun, Adjective, Adverb) - Error Correction - Editing and Omission Exercises

The grammar section ensures students have a firm grasp of the English language. The focus is on functional grammar, helping them construct grammatically accurate sentences. Exercises include transforming sentences, editing short texts to correct errors, and completing passages by filling in gaps with appropriate words. This strengthens both written and spoken English.

4. Literature (Main Reader – Prose)

- Selected prose lessons from prescribed textbook

The prose section exposes students to essays, stories, and extracts by well-known authors. These texts are rich in themes such as human values, relationships, ethics, and social issues. Through comprehension and discussion, students learn to interpret characters, appreciate narrative styles, and critically analyze the content.

5. Literature (Main Reader – Poetry)

- Prescribed poems by classical and modern poets

Poetry is included to develop sensitivity to language, rhythm, and imagery. Students will study different forms of poetry ranging from lyrical, narrative, to reflective poems. They will be trained to appreciate poetic devices like simile, metaphor, personification, and symbolism. 6. Supplementary Reader
