Government Exams for LLB Graduates 

1 Judicial services sector

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or more commonly known as the Judicial Examination, is the gateway for law graduates. These are done by the state governments under the supervision of the high courts.

 

Post & description

In lower courts, one person can be appointed as District Judge and in higher courts, one person can be appointed as Additional District Judge. Judges are responsible for many duties both internally and externally. His duties at the court are:

 

  • Listen to the arguments of both sides, the prosecution and the defence.
  • Listen to the statement.
  • Decision regarding the admission of evidence.
  • Advise the defendant of his rights.
  • Hearing of witnesses. Rule
  • Rules Concerning Decisions by Proxy.
  • Determination of guilt or innocence of defendants and punishment of defendants found guilty.
  • Determination of liability or damage in civil cases.

Eligibility & qualification

Judicial review is divided into two levels: junior judicial officers and senior judicial officers.

  • Candidates must hold an LLB certificate and be registered as a Solicitor under the Civil Act 1961.
  • The age limit is generally between 21 and 35 years and may vary from state to state, except for specific age restrictions for private candidates.

PCS(J)  Exam Pattern & Criteria

The exam is held in three stages and includes oral materials as well as civil and criminal law.

  • Preliminary Exam - After candidates pass the preliminary exam, they will take the next exam. There are multiple objective questions (MCQ). However, pre-test scores will not be taken into account in the final selection.
  • Main Exam - Main exam is the second exam and is of subjective  type. It has three to four forms. The scores of this test will be taken into account in the final selection.
  • Viva-voce/Personal Interview – The final stage of selection is the interview, where the candidate is evaluated based on factors such as interests, personality, and skills.

Salary and allowances

3. The Ministry of Law and Justice, and the Ministry of Defence

JAG (Judge Advocate General)

Post & description

This post is an official branch of the Indian Army. JAG officers provide legal assistance to the military, advising military law enforcement, particularly in military courts. JAG officers are responsible for handling all legal work, from writing papers to appearing before courts and military tribunals. They handle military-related disciplinary matters and cases and provide legal assistance to the military on human rights issues.

The qualifications is:

  • Candidates must be Indian citizens or Nepalese citizens.
  • Person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and East African countries Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam and wishes to settle in India must have an appropriate certificate issued in his favour by the Government of India. A person who has permanent residence.
  • Applicants must be unmarried men and unmarried women with minimum 55% marks in LLB and the degree must be from a college/university recognized by the Bar Council of India.
  • The applicant must be eligible for registration as an Advocate with the Bar Council of India/State.
  • The current age limit is 21 to 27 years (date of birth not before 2 July 1994 and not later than 1 July 2000, inclusive).

INDIAN ARMY Exam Pattern & Criteria

  • Phase 1: Official Security Review (OIR), Proposed Picture and Test Testing (PP & DT) and briefing and group discussion.
  • Phase 2l: Psychological tests including thematic apperception test (TAT), word association test (WAT), situation test (SRT) and self-description test (SDT). Next comes the Ground Test (GTO test) and a personal interview.
  • After passing the two-stage selection process, candidates must attend the Selection Board (SSB) interview, which will last five days. Those who pass the interview will undergo a physical examination and then the final selection will be made based on the merit list.

The salary of Lieutenant rank is Rs 1056,100 - Rs 1,77,500 (junior). The promotion processes are as follows: The Captain is promoted to Captain after completing two years. 4.The Government Universities/Colleges – National Law Universities

CLAT-PG

Post & description

  • There is no upper age limit to apply for the CLAT PG exam.
  • The candidate must be an Indian citizen of India and the NRI students are also eligible to apply.

CLAT Exam  Pattern & Criteria:

  • The paper is divided into two parts. It has objective-type questions carrying 100 marks in the first section with every wrong answer getting a negative marking of 0.25 marks. The second section is descriptive in nature which includes writing 2 essays each of 800 words for 25 marks.
  • The paper is based on the mandatory subjects of the undergraduate program and includes Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, etc.

5. UGC NET

The University Grants Committee organizes the National Eligibility Test conducted twice a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the selection of qualified candidates for the posts of Lecturer and Assistant Professor and Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in the College/University. Candidates who pass this exam are also eligible for PSU.

The qualification is:

  • Applicants must have majors in Humanities (including Languages) and Science, Computer Science and Applied, Electrical Engineering etc. They must have completed a Master's degree or equivalent from a recognized UGC University/Institution in the fields with at least 55% marks. Please. Candidates other than Other Backward Classes (OBC) Non-creamy class/Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with Disabilities (PWD) category candidates are entitled to 5% relaxation in case of failure.
  • There is no upper age limit for the post of assistant professor
  • With effect from 6 January 2020, the upper age limit for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) has been fixed at 30 years (relaxed to 5 years for OBC candidates) and 3 years for LLM candidates.

Exam Pattern & Criteria

UGC NET comprises  of 2 papers – paper 1 and paper 2

 

  • Paper I includes teaching ability, research, reading comprehension, communication, thinking (including mathematics), critical thinking, data interpretation, media and communication, people and environment, higher education (including administration, management, and management), etc. Includes topics. 100 student points. Each correct answer will give you 2 points. The exam will not have any negative aspects.
  • Paper-II is prepared according to the topics chosen by the candidates and receives a maximum of 200 points.

Salary and allowances

UGC's standard salary range for Assistant Professors in Government Universities is Rs. 55,000 - Rs. 1,05,000 per month. The final salary also includes base salary, DA, HRA, LTA, etc. 25,000 per month for the first two years. 6.Supreme Court Law Clerk/ Research Assistant

SUPREME COURT LAW CLERK Exam Pattern & Criteria

The selection process takes place in two parts:

  • Written Exam – This exam is divided further into two sections: (i) General Knowledge & English (ii) Law.
  • Interview – Only the candidates qualified in the written exam are called in for an interview which is conducted by a three-panel member consisting of Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court.

Salary 

A fixed consolidated stipend of Rs. 65,000/- per month 

7.The public sector banks

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) Law Officer exam

The evaluation was conducted for selected public sector banks, State Bank of India (SBI), SBI Associate Bank, National Bank of Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI). Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and insurance companies and other banks are all IBPS Association. Different exams are conducted for different positions and departments like the IBPS SO exam for civil servants, the IBPS officers exam, the IBPS PO exam for civil servants, IBPS RRB exam for local area officers and civil servants.

 

IBPS PO – This exam is conducted to recruit PO for 15 public sector banks in India.   

 

The qualification is:

  • An Indian citizen or a citizen of Nepal or Bhutan or Tibetan refugees who have come to India to seek a settlement before January 1, 1962.
  • A person who has migrated from either Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, Zaire, or Zambia with the intention of permanent settlement in India and if of Indian origin.
  • Those candidates with a graduation degree with their age falling between the range of 20 to 30 years can apply for the IBPS PO.
  • The candidate must have a Graduation Degree or any Degree equivalent to Graduation for a university that has been recognized by the State/Central Government of India. Candidates must be enrolled with the Bar Council as an Advocate.

IBPS Exam Pattern & Criteria

The process of recruitment is a three step procedure including preliminary exam, main exam, and interview process.

  • IBPS PO preliminary has 100 marks of objective type question paper on English, quantitative aptitude, and reasoning ability.
  • IBPS PO main has both objective and descriptive papers. After the objective paper is qualified, only then the descriptive paper is examined. The subjects are English language, data analysis and interpretation, general economy or banking awareness, reasoning and computer aptitude and letter writing an essay,
  • The candidate who has qualified for the mains is called for an interview. The minimum qualifying mark is 40%. The SC/SC/OBC/PwD candidates get a relaxation.

The starting salary for new entrants is Rs. 23700, after 7 years it will be Rs 30560, after 2 years it will be Rs 32850 and after 7 years it will be Rs 42020. Besides the basic salary, there are various allowances, including housing allowances, rental allowances and special funds. and municipal subsidies. IBPS RRB exam

Nationality/citizenship is the same as mentioned above. The age limit is for office assistants (multipurpose) – should be between 18 years and 28 years. For Officer Scale-I (assistant manager) – 19 years to 29 years. For Officer Scale-II (Manager) – 22 years to 31 years. For Officer Scale – III (senior manager) 22 years to 39 years.  IBPS Exam Pattern & Criteria

For IBPS assistants, the examination procedure is of two phases:

  • A preliminary exam which is of 80 marks and 45 minutes including questions on reasoning and numerical ability.
  • And main exams of 200 marks for 2 hours including questions on reasoning, general awareness, numerical ability, English/Hindi language paper, and computer knowledge.
  • For IBPS RRB officers, the exam is conducted in three phases, first, two being the same as above followed by an interview.

The salary varies based on different posts. For IBPS RRB office assistant, it ranges between Rs 15000 to Rs 19000, for an IBPS RRB Officer (Scale I), it ranges from Rs.29,000 to Rs 33,000, For Officer (Scale II), it ranges between Rs.33,000 and Rs 39,000 and for Officer (Scale III), it ranges between Rs 38,000 to Rs 44,000.

8.Under Reserve Bank of India

  • At least 2 years of experience as an advocate/law officer in the legal department of a large bank/financial institution /statutory corporation /company and/or legal associate etc.

RBI Exam Pattern & Criteria

  • It is a national level exam conducted by RBI every year under the name of RBI Grade B.
  • It is conducted both in online and offline mode, where the languages of the exam are English and Hindi.
  • The exam is conducted in three phases: preliminary, main exam, and interview round. negative marking is applicable for both papers.

For Grade B (DR) for General

The paper pattern for this exam is as follows:

Phase 1 consists of multiple-choice questions in four sections – a) general awareness b) english language c) quantitative aptitude d) reasoning – total 120 minutes and 200 marks.

Phase 2 consists of three papers on economic and social issues, English language and finance and management.

Salary & allowances

The basic salary for the RBI Grade B employees is around Rs. 67,933/- including all the allowances provided by the government of India

SEBI Grade A Officer

It is an assistant manager legal post at the Securities Exchange Board of India which is the only regulatory body of the securities market in India.

Depending on the Flow selected during recruitment, employees are assigned to various departments, from policy creation to central registration, inspection, auditing, investigation and decision-making. SEBI divides the management level into levels A to F (e.g. A: Deputy Manager, B: Manager, C: Deputy General Manager, D: Deputy General Manager, E: General Manager, F: General Manager).

Education & qualification

The educational qualification allows a candidate to have an L.L.B degree from a recognized University / Institute among other streams. The maximum age limit is 30 years.

STATUTORY BODIES AND CORPORATIONS Exam Pattern & Criteria

The recruitment process is divided into three phases:

  • The first phase is a screening exam consisting of 2 papers, each paper of 100 marks for multiple choice questions for 60 minutes 
  • The second paper also consists of 2 papers, each of 100 marks for multiple choice questions for 40 minutes on the specialized subject related to the stream. Only qualified candidates 
  • Phase-II is an online examination that also consists of 2 papers, each of 100 marks. An aggregate mark of 40 % is required to score in Phase-II to qualify.

10. Ministry of Home Affairs

Post & description 

The Office of the Custodian of Enemy Property for India , under the Ministry of Home Affairs, offers the post of Law officer (Grade-II) as a consultant. To assist the Law Officer Grade-I in the duties mentioned below:

  • To provide in house legal assistance to the office of CEPI.
  • To draft affidavits.
  • To put in place a mechanism for legal audit.
  • To monitor the status of litigations pertaining to enemy properties.
  • Any other task assigned by CEPI on legal matters from time to time.

Eligibility 

The qualification is as follows:

  • Retired Government Officer of ILS/ Central Government Services who retired from the analogous post; or
  • On a contractual basis a person having a degree in law with a minimum experience of 3 years as a practitioner of law.
  • Along with working knowledge of computers.
  • The age limit is 65 years.

Salary & allowances 

Remuneration of Rs. 35,000 is offered. For contractual employees, the increment will be allowed @5% per annum on the basis of deserving officials based on their performance on a case to case basis on account of special expertise/experience in the concerned field. 

    Under the Ministry of Railway

 IFRC, a wholly government-owned organization under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Railways Limited, is responsible for selecting candidates for the post of Chief Legal Officer (Legal). Other state-specific measures also have contractual obligations, such as police assistance.

Qualification

Requirements vary by job; but LL.B. Degree required. The post of Legal Officer at Indian Railway University requires a law degree and three years of lawyer experience. Law graduates who are currently working in the Railways and have worked in any department of the Railways for at least five years can also apply for this post.

11.Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is responsible for the recruitment of qualified civil servants for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, Administrative Services, Indian Police Service and other relevant institutions.

 

Eligibility & qualification

For IAS, IFS and IPS, one of them must be an Indian national. Candidates must be eligible to appear for the UPSC Preliminary Examination if they have graduated from a recognized university, are in their final year or are awaiting results. The UPSC exam is open to candidates between the ages of 21 and 35. 09 (OBC); and SC/ST (within age limit) testing.

12.Public Prosecutor
