CLAT 2026 Notification Out: Registration, Exam Date, and Key Highlights

The Consortium of National Law Universities has officially released the CLAT 2026 notification on its official website. As per the latest notification, the CLAT exam will be conducted on 7th December, 2025 and the application procedure for the same will start from August 1. Applicants will be allowed to register for the same till CLAT application last date which is October 31, 2025. To apply for the exam, aspirants are required to visit the official website of the CLAT or consortium of NLUs (consortiumofnlus.ac.in).

The CLAT is conducted for undergraduate and postgraduate law courses offered by 24 participating NLUs in India. The CLAT 2026 will be a 2-hour exam with 120 multiple-choice questions, and it will cover subjects such as English, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Students are advised to start their CLAT 2025 preparation as this is the ideal time. Candidates must visit the official website of the CLAT or Consortium of NLUs to stay updated regarding the latest updates and events related to the examination.

How to Register for CLAT 2026?

Candidates can follow the below listed steps to know how to apply for CLAT exam.

Registration: Interested candidates will have to register by providing their personal and academic details. Besides, they must select and confirm a password for their newly created account.

Login: After the registration process is completed, candidates must log in to access their application form.

Select the Program: After logging in, choose the program you wish to take this exam for i.e. 5-year LLB or 1-year LLB.

Fill the Application Form: There are various fields in the exam form such as personal information, communication details, qualifying examination status, exam center preferences (THREE centers can be selected in the order of preference), and reservation.

Submit the Form: Once these exam details are completely filled, candidates must agree to the declaration and give their consent. After all this is done, candidates must submit the form.

Payment of Application Fee: This is the last step to fill CLAT 2026 Application Form. The payment of CLAT Application Fee must be done through online mode i.e. credit card, debit card or net banking. In addition to the exam fee, candidates will also be required to pay an additional amount of INR 500 if they wish to opt for previous years' question papers.

Who is Eligible for CLAT Exam?

Candidates are advised to go through the CLAT eligibility criteria provided below before filling out the application form.

CLAT Eligibility Requirements for UG:

  • Must pass 10 + 2
  • Students appearing for class 12 final exams in 2026 are also eligible.
  • A minimum score of 45% in last qualifying examination
  • A minimum of 40% marks in aggregate for reserved category candidates
  • No age limit

CLAT Eligibility Requirements for PG (LLM):

  • Must have an LLB degree
  • A minimum score of 50% in last qualifying examination
  • A minimum of 45% marks in aggregate for reserved category candidates
  • No age limit

Required Documents to Fill CLAT 2026 Application Form

To fill out the application form of the CLAT, students are mandated to present the below documents:

  • Recent passport-size photograph
  • Scanned signature
  • Class 10 certificate or mark sheet
  • Category certificate (if applicable)
  • PwD certificate (if applicable)
  • Domicile certificate (if applying under state quota)
  • NRI/NRI Sponsored/PIO/OCI certificate (if applicable)
  • Front page of passport (for NRI candidates)
  • ID proof like Aadhaar card or PAN card
  • Valid email ID and mobile number
