Section A: Reading Skills (20 Marks)
This section focuses on comprehension and interpretation of unseen passages.
- Unseen Passage (Factual or Discursive)
- Around 350–400 words.
- Could be based on factual data, historical events, environmental issues, or a social message.
- Students answer vocabulary-based and inferential questions.
- Weightage: 10 Marks.
- Unseen Passage (Case-based or Literary)
- Around 300–350 words.
- May involve stories, narratives, dialogues, or extracts requiring interpretation.
- Includes short-answer type questions, word meanings, synonyms/antonyms.
- Weightage: 10 Marks.
Key Skills Tested
- Understanding the central idea.
- Drawing inferences.
- Vocabulary enrichment.
- Skimming and scanning.
Section B: Writing and Grammar (20 Marks)
1. Writing Tasks (10 Marks)
Students are expected to write creatively, maintaining clarity, logical flow, and grammatical accuracy.
- Formal Letter / Informal Letter (to editor, complaint, application, request, etc.).
- Analytical Paragraph Writing (based on data, charts, or images).
- Diary Entry / Story Writing (for expression and creativity).
2. Grammar (10 Marks)
Application-based grammar questions are included from the prescribed syllabus.
- Tenses (past, present, future).
- Modals (can, could, may, might, must, should, etc.).
- Subject-Verb Agreement.
- Reported Speech (Statements, Questions, Commands).
- Determiners.
- Passive Voice.
- Editing / Omission (error correction in sentences).
