Exam Structure and Content

The question paper followed the traditional bifurcation:

  • Part A focused on Accounting for Partnership Firms and Companies.
  • Part B offered a choice between Analysis of Financial Statements and Computerised Accounting.

The total marks for the theory paper were 80, while the remaining 20 marks were allotted to the practical exam. The exam included a variety of questions—ranging from objective-type (1 mark) to short-answer (3 & 4 marks) and long-answer (6 marks). This format ensured a well-rounded evaluation of students' understanding, analytical skills, and accuracy in solving numerical problems.

Expert Opinion

According to commerce faculty, the paper was well-aligned with the prescribed CBSE syllabus and closely followed the NCERT textbook.

Meenu Chandhok, HOD Commerce at Seth Anandram Jaipuria School, noted that the exam was concept-driven, rather than memory-based. “The MCQs were a bit lengthy and calculation-heavy, especially the competency-based questions on the 'Issue of Shares'. However, the overall paper was of moderate difficulty and fair in its evaluation,” she said.

Saurabh Sardana, HOD Commerce at Shiv Nadar School, Faridabad, also found the paper thoughtfully framed. “Students appreciated the clarity and balance in question types. It wasn’t overly long, and the familiar pattern helped them remain confident throughout the exam. It was a well-structured paper that genuinely tested students’ understanding,” he remarked.

Student Feedback

Students echoed similar sentiments, describing the paper as fair and well-balanced. Many appreciated that the questions were based on familiar concepts and reflected the types of problems seen in NCERT books and sample papers.

Lakshay Aggarwal, a Class 12 student, shared that while the paper wasn't easy, it was manageable. “You needed conceptual clarity, especially for the MCQs that required detailed calculations. But overall, it was a fair test.”

Another student from Shiv Nadar School said the structure of the paper made it easy to attempt within the allotted time. Arnav Balyan added, “The long-answer questions gave us a chance to properly showcase what we had learned.”

Some students did mention that a few analysis-based questions, particularly in the financial statement section, were tricky and required extra focus. However, those who had practiced sample papers and revision tests felt well-prepared.

Preparation Tips

For future aspirants, it's advisable to:

  • Practice Previous Year Papers: Solving past question papers can help in understanding the exam pattern and time management.
  • Focus on Key Topics: Emphasize understanding partnership accounts, company accounts, and financial statement analysis.
  • Time Management: During preparation and the exam, allocate time wisely to ensure all questions are attempted.
