Allowances and Benefits for BPSC Employees

BPSC hires officers for Bihar state's public services like the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS), Bihar Police Service (BPS), Bihar Financial Service, etc. Government officers in Bihar enjoy a variety of monetary allowances and non-monetary benefits as per the 7th Pay Commission and state provisions.

Dearness Allowance (DA)

  • Purpose: Replace the impact of inflation
  • Applicable To: Existing employees of BPSC and officers of BPSC

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

  • Class B cities (tier-2): 16% of basic pay.
  • Class C towns or rural posting: 8% of basic pay.

  • HRA is not admissible when government accommodation is obtained.
  • Rates could differ slightly in the State of Bihar when compared to the basis of National Policy.

Transport Allowance (TA)

This allowance is to facilitate the commute to work:

  • Teachers: ₹1,000–1,500/month
  • ASOs: Fixed ₹3,600/month
  • PCS officers: Varies by situation- most have an official vehicle and/or are reimbursed by the state.
  • DA goes on TA also.

Medical Allowance / Facilities

  • Fixed ₹1,000/month for teachers
  • Officers and staff typically have access to CGHS or state medical facilities, and are charged out of subsidized rates.

Children Education Allowance (CEA)

  • Up to ₹2,250 per child per month (maximum two children).
  • Hostel subsidy of ₹6,000/year
  • Ceases to apply after children are in 11th grade, except when they're in initial year of university/college research, and even then you have to be part of a cadre that extends 11th grade and up!
  • Increased by 25% each time DA goes over 50% (e.g., ₹2,812/month after increase) foujiadda.in.
  • Income tax deduction granted for allowances up to ₹100/month, per child.

Washing/Uniform Allowance

  • To employees who wear uniforms while working.
  • Amount varies greatly (e.g., ₹180 ₹450/month), but each state does not always reveal state-specific allowances, only in larger schemas, like uniform allowance.

Any other allowance and perks

  1. Leave Travel Concession (LTC):For defined holiday periods; and covers reimbursement for domestic travel within a prescribed time, (number of days to travel is determined by government).
  2. Special Duty/Hill Area/Hard Area, special allowances: For specific postings.
  • Subsidized electricity/water/telephone bills, along with subsidized official or authorized transport for PCS officers.
  • Provision of official vehicle and officers assessment, and therefore, there may or may not be security advice-officer cavalcade dependent on the situation per existence of order, etc.
  • Can participate and receive gross retirement benefits under NPS. Participants have a contribution cap of 10% of salary, state has matching contribution of 10% of salary and the retirement benefit takes in account pension/gratuity at retirement.
  • Group insurance and family benefits, typically family pension, Diwali bonus etc.
