Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) was established in 1990 by the Government of Tamil Nadu to serve the educational needs of the southern districts of Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari. Named after the Tamil scholar Prof. P. Sundaram Pillai, author ofManonmaniam, the university carries the motto“Reaching the Unreached.”

It is a State Public University, recognized by the UGC and accredited with an ‘A’ grade by NAAC. Spread across a 520-acre green campus at Abishekapatti, Tirunelveli, MSU also has specialized satellite campuses in Alwarkurichi (Environmental Sciences) and Rajakkamangalam (Marine Sciences & Technology).
