Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University Highlights 2025

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyanga State University, formerly known asJagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University, was established on 27 September 2001 in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh. The university was founded by Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Swami Rambhadracharya, who is visually impaired. The institution was registered under Uttar Pradesh State Act 32 of 2001, which appointed Rambhadracharya as the lifelong Chancellor.

Originally set up as a specialized university exclusively for persons with disabilities, JRHU remained the first and only such university in India and worldwide until Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University was established in Lucknow later. In 2023, the Uttar Pradesh government upgraded the institution to state university status under the Uttar Pradesh Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University Act, 2023. This act expanded access by allowing admission of both disabled and non-disabled students, with a policy that 50% of seats are reserved for divyang students and 50% for other students.
