OVERVIEW    

IGNOU offers a lot of courses through distance education. Admission is through 12th class scores. There is a college assigned to distance education students in the city they choose where they take classes on the weekends. The teachers of this college are knowledgeable. Syllabus

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established by an Act of Parliament in 1985, has continuously striven to build an inclusive knowledge-based society through education. It has tried to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by offering high-quality teaching through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

Scholarship

IGNOU offers scholarships to students under the following categories-

  • Students who belong to a financially weaker background.
  • Students who are the single girl-child of their parents.
  • Students belonging to the reserved category- SC/ST/OBC and other minority candidates.

Students who wish to avail the scholarship have to fill an application form available on the official website. Students must read the eligibility criteria before filling the forms as only eligible candidates are offered scholarships. Students can fill and submit the duly filled form before the stipulated time online on the official website of IGNOU. 

Results

IGNOU is one of the largest Open University offering distance education since 1985 in a wide variety of courses to choose from as per the requirement of an individual. The university offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Doctorate, Diploma and Certificate courses and to take admission in these courses candidate needs to appear for the entrance examination of Indira Gandhi National Open University. Most of the process including admission and result declaration at IGNOU is done on its official website. Candidate needs to visit the official website to apply for a particular course along with viewing the result of a particular exam.

IGNOU recently declared the date sheet of the upcoming examination to be conducted in the month of December. The university highlighting the terms and conditions for the same. Aspiring Students can log in to the website and click on the links to download the date sheet of the examination. Candidate needs to satisfy the eligibility criteria to apply for a particular course and appear for Term End Examination (TEE).

Evaluation Process of IGNOU:

For evaluation of candidates enrolled in various IGNOU courses, the University follows a 3 steps evaluation method to quantify the growth of each student's performance.

Steps of evaluation at IGNOU

  • Self- Assessment by Students:  This particular assessment method is not on basis of marks but it is focused to aid in student's mental growth.
  • Assignments: The students are given certain assignments in the duration of the course and they are evaluated on basis of that. A total of 25 to 35 per cent marks are on basis of performance in assignments.
  • Term End Examination: This particular evaluation method has maximum weightage on basis of marks (70 to 75 per cent) and evaluation is done on the marks scored in the final term examination.

Steps to Check IGNOU Result:

  1. Candidate needs to visit the official website of the IGNOU.
  2. Click on the “Student Zone” on the homepage.
  3. From the drop-down menu, choose the result option
  4. Candidate will be redirected to the result page where the candidate needs to select the link of the particular exam.
  5. Candidate needs to enter the registration number and submit the result page.
  6. The result will be displayed on the screen. 

Admission Procedure

Admission to IGNOU courses takes place twice a year, in the month of January and in the month of July. Students can opt for admissions in either of the months. For the July session, registration usually starts in the month of May and goes on until June. For the January session, online registration starts in the month of September-October and continues till November-December. Those seeking admissions can apply through the IGNOU online admission portal within the stipulated time. 

About Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

The Indira Gandhi Open University was established by an act of the parliament in the year 1985. It has been approved by both the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). IGNOU was established to solve the sole purpose of providing higher education opportunities to the disadvantaged sections of the society. Notable Centres/Cells/Units in IGNOU:

IGNOU facilitates the following cells, centres and units with a specific function of each of them.

  • Campus Placement Cell – The mission and endeavour of this cell are to provide gainful employment opportunities to its learners. The cell conducts on-campus and off-campus placement drives and employment enhancement activities at the headquarters and some of its regional centres.
  • National Centre for Disability Studies (NCDS) – This centre was set up under the 10th plan period and is operational since November 2006. The centre was set up with the mission to strengthen the potential of people with disabilities and build their capabilities so that they can connect with the mainstream of the society.
  • Educational development of North East Region Unit – This centre was established with the objective of creating educational access and equal opportunities for the ‘unreached' in the North- East Region cutting all physical and geographical barriers.
  • Research Unit – This unit was set up in the year 2008. It is the nodal unit of IGNOU which manages all the research related activities at the University. The main aim of this unit is to conduct Research Council and Research Council's Standing Committee meetings for developing policies and frameworks for the conduct of research activities. The Research Degree Program today has an enrolment figure exceeding 1268 scholars registered in 57 Research Disciplines. By the end of 2016, IGNOU has awarded PhD to 306 scholars and M.Phil. to 47 scholars.

  •  In the year 1999, The Indira Gandhi Open University launched the first virtual campus of India, responsible for delivering Computer and Information Sciences courses using the Internet facilities.
  •  IGNOU has enrolled and benefitted over 3 million students by 2011 in India and it also includes 40 other countries abroad.
  •  IGNOU in the year 1993, was awarded by the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) as its first Centre of Excellence for Distance Education.

A. Yes. IGNOU is a Central University established by Act of Parliament in 1985 (Act No 50 of 1985). IGNOU Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates are recognised by all the members of the Association of the Indian Universities (AIU) and AICTE and are at par with Degrees/Diplomas /Certificates of all the Indian Universities/Deemed Universities/Institutions vide UGC Circular No. F.I-8/92 (CPP) dated Feburary, 1992, AIU Circular N EV/B (449)/94/176915 dated 5th January, 1994 & UGC Circular No. F1-52/2000(CPP-II) dated May, 2004.

2. Demand Draft/Cash Challan for the program Fee / Fee for the first year/semester and have written your name, program code and online Control No on the reverse The Demand Draft should in favor of IGNOU and payable at the city of the Regional Centre opted.

3. Attested copies of certificates in support of your educational qualification(s). If you are applying for BCA and have studied Mathematics at 10+2 leve, attach mark sheet as proof.

4. Experience certificate where required.

5. Category certificate for SC/ST/PH/Minority candidates.

6. Age certificate wherever required.

Q. What is the fee Amount & Mode of the Payment?

A. The details of fee structure for the programs can in official website.Make a draft in favour of IGNOU payable at the city where your Regional Centre is situated. For BScN(PostBasic), PGDHHM, PGDGM, PGDMCH, DNA, CCENAM, CNIC, CMCHC) only Registration Fee (Rs 100 / -) is to be paid. The candidates of PGDCC will also pay the registration fee of Rs.500/- The Programme Fee will be collected from the candidates on their selection.

Q. When will I be notified of my acceptance?

A. You will be notified of your acceptance usually within two months after the receipt of your application in the Regional Centre when the review process has been completed.

Q. What is an auto-generated Control Number?

A. An auto-generated Control Number is allotted provisionally after submission of online application form.

Q. Can Foreign Nationals fill the online admission form?

A. No, only Indian Nationals residing in India can use this facility. Please contact Director (International Cell), IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 for admission or visit http://www.ignou.ac.in and select the Division and International Division for Fee Details/Parter Institutes etc.
