The Bangalore University is a UGC recognized public university, established in the year 1964 as an offshoot of the University of Mysore. BU offers a wide range of courses ranging from UG, PG, Diploma, PG Diploma, Certificate and PhD. Bangalore University is accredited by NAAC under the new grading system with a ‘Grade A' in 2016.
As the university was developed it introduced few Honours courses in 1965 to 1966. Intelligent student were attracted to the honours courses were in English, Botany, Kannada, Zoology, Economics, Geology, Mathematics and Chemistry. Since the University was developed it had kept growing in every way be it in strength or be it in size . Bangalore University has many of the colleges affiliated to it. As the college kept growing then in 1973 it expanded enough to change its campus and this new campus was names as ' JNANA BHARATHI '(JB). This new campus is nearly 1100 acres campus. This University is following its moto of 'JNANAM VIGNANA SAHITHAM'

There are two colleges, The College of Physical Education (1959) and The University Law College (1948) are now a part of JB campus. Bangore University is the largest university of Asia.

ACADEMICS
The Bangalore University is categorized into six faculties namely Arts, Science, Commerce and Management, Law and Engineering. Currently the university has more than 40 Post Graduate departments, a Post Graduate centre at Kolar, 720 affiliated colleges under it. Presently the University offers nearly 50 Post Graduate courses and Employment Oriented Diploma and Certificate courses. The University has also launched five-year Integrated Courses in Biological Sciences, Social Sciences, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Business Studies. From the academic year 2014-15, the university has replaced its BSc course with a four-year BS program for all its affiliated colleges.
