Acharya Nagarjuna University (ANU) is a public university situated in the Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. The university was established in the year 1976 by an act of the state legislature and was named after Acharya Nagarjuna who was a great philosopher and ardent follower of Buddhism. There are 450 colleges affiliated to the Acharya Nagarjuna University, which offers various higher learning program i.e post-graduate courses.
 
The university has nearly completed a decade contributing to the education and research sector in the districts of Nagarjuna Nagar, it is one of the major education centre in the state of Andra Pradesh offering 47 post-graduate courses. The university’s postgraduate centres are divided into two one at Nuzvid and other at Ongole. 

Acharya Nagarjuna University Centre for Distance Learning:

1) Acharya Nagarjuna University Distance Learning program enables a student to study the course of his choice through distance learning.

2) The centre was established in the year  1976 within the main campus.

3) The centre offers a quality education at an affordable cost as it is funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U).

4) The centre is accredited with Grade- ’A’ status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Acharya Nagarjuna University Campus Life:

 

1) Library-

 

  • The library in the ANU campus is known as ’Ambedkar Memorial Library’. It was established along with the campus in the year 1976.
  • The library comprises of various Books, Journals, Theses, and E-resources.

Data of the collection are-

Total Collection- 1,44,246

Books and Non-book materials- 1,35,796

Research Theses- 5,100

 

2) Computer Centre-

 

  • The computer Centre present on the University campus is fully equipped with the latest computer systems and software.
  • There is a well build network infrastructure in the computer centre that provides fast internet services.

 

3) Hostel-

 

  • There are total three hostels in the campus that accommodate around 650 students.
  • Among the three hostels, 1 hostel is for boys, and one is for the girls.
  • There is a separate hostel for the scholars which accommodate around 100 persons.

Research in Social Problems in the light of Dr. B.R Ambedkar’s visionAcharya Nagarjuna University was established in 1976 covering 6 Universities of the State. It was established to fulfill the aspirations of students residing in southern coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh who wished to pursue post graduate programs. Its jurisdiction now extends to three districts having over 450 affiliated colleges offering Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate, Engineering, Education, Law, Pharmacy and Oriental Languages courses. It also has 39 Post-graduate teaching-cum-research courses on the campus, while 71 affiliated colleges offer P.G. courses.  The University runs two P.G. centers-one at Ongole (a fully self-financed center) and another at Nuzvid (aided).  

The university aims to provide job oriented courses at degree and postgraduate level so that the students are market ready right from the beginning. It also pays adequate attention towards research activities to maintain a right balance between the knowledge that it wishes to impart and its application. The university has been striving to maintain high academic standards along with gradually increasing the number of students it accepts every year.
