Delhi University Offers 3-Year Exit Option | Special Exams for Operation Sindoor Affected Students

Delhi University (DU) has introduced a major change for students pursuing its four-year undergraduate (UG) programme. If you're someone who doesn’t want to continue for all four years, you now have the option to exit after three years—and still get a proper degree.

According to the university’s latest notice, students who complete six semesters (three years) can choose to leave the course. If you’re studying multiple subjects (interdisciplinary), you’ll receive a regular Bachelor’s degree. If you’re focused on a single subject, you’ll get an Honours degree. To officially opt out, students must log in to the student portal at and fill out an online intent form by the deadline.

DU has also advised students to think carefully about this decision and talk to their teachers or mentors before making the final call. This move is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes flexibility in education and provides students greater influence over their learning experience.

Special Exams for Students Affected by Operation Sindoor

In another important update, DU is also helping students who missed their May exams due to Operation Sindoor—a security operation that impacted travel in border areas like Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. Many students couldn’t make it to Delhi for their exams between May 13–15 because of travel restrictions.

To support them, DU will conduct special exams. If you were affected, you need to fill out a Google form and submit documents showing you couldn’t attend the exams. The last date to apply is July 10, 11:59 PM. The university will later announce new exam dates and centers based on how many students apply.

Professor Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, DU’s Controller of Exams, said the goal is to make sure no student is unfairly affected by something beyond their control.

In Conclusion

Delhi University is doing a lot to help students, such as letting them leave after three years or helping those who are in challenging situations like Operation Sindoor.
