Law graduates waiting to take the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) 20 might not have to wait much longer. The Bar Council of India (BCI) is likely to release the official notification this July, with the exam tentatively scheduled for September 2025.
This national-level exam is the final step toward getting a Certificate of Practice (CoP), which every lawyer needs to begin practicing in Indian courts.
AIBE 2025 Registration Date and Application Process
The entire process will be done online, as once the notification is issued on the official website, allindiabarexamination.com, registration for AIBE 20 will begin.
Candidates who meet the requirements must complete the form, provide the necessary files, and pay the registration cost. It is expected that the application period will be available until the end of August or early September.
AIBE 20 Exam Pattern 2025: Format, Syllabus & Marking Scheme
There will be 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) on the pen and paper version of AIBE 20. Candidates will be tested on 19 different legal topics throughout the three-hour exam, including:
- Constitutional Law
- Indian Penal Code (IPC)
- Criminal and Civil Procedure Codes (CrPC & CPC)
- Contract Law
- Family Law
- Evidence Act
Candidates must receive a minimum score of 40% in order to pass; there will be no negative marking.
AIBE 2025 Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply for AIBE 20
To be eligible for the AIBE 20 exam, candidates must:
- Hold a valid 3-year or 5-year LLB degree from a recognized university
- Be enrolled with any State Bar Council
- Have an enrollment certificate at the time of applying
Law graduates who haven’t enrolled with their state Bar Council yet won’t be eligible.
AIBE 20 Language Options and Exam Centres in 2025
AIBE 20 will be held in over 50 cities across India, with options in 22 languages such as English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Assamese, and others. Candidates can choose their preferred test centre and language while filling out the application form.
What to Carry for AIBE 20 2025: Bare Acts Allowed
The AIBE exam hall permits Bare Acts (without notes or comments), in contrast to many other legal exams. However, personal notes, textbooks, commentary, and other technological gadgets are strictly prohibited. Additionally, candidates should refrain from bringing irrelevant or valuable objects.
AIBE 2025 Admit Card and Result Timeline
Once the registration closes, admit cards for AIBE 20 will likely be issued in early September. The exam is expected to be held shortly after. If the schedule follows previous trends, results could be declared by December 2025, followed by the issuance of Certificates of Practice.
