About Motilal Nehru College, Delhi
Motilal Nehru College was established in the year 1964 at the National Capital, New Delhi, and is one of the largest constituent colleges of Delhi University, offering Under Graduate courses in numerous disciplines under the Department of Humanities, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Commerce, Computer Science, Hindi and Sanskrit. The institute also offers Post Graduate courses in Hindi, Political Science and Commerce. It also conducts evening classes for the same subjects and is called Motilal Nehru College Evening. The college also offers ‘Skill Development' courses in Mass Communication, Tourism, Media Lekhan and Patrakarita. The institute is recognized by the University Grant Commission (UGC) Under Act of 1956 of UGC.
The institute was started in a government school building with an enrollment of 300 students. In the year 1989, college was shifted to its current location at Benito Juarez Marg, South Campus, New Delhi. Presently, the college has an enrollment of over 3,500 students. MNC is one among the first institutes in Delhi University to design a disabled-friendly access to the building.
Motilal Nehru College Campus is spread over an area of 39943 sq. mts. comprises of the Academic block, Library, Canteen, Medical Room, Conference Hall, Computer Lab, Wi-Fi Campus, and Cafeteria. MNC library has a collection of total 1,07,586 books, journals and periodicals and has the subscription of 86 periodicals and magazines. The computer labs of MNC carries 61 computer stations and are equipped with LAN and Wi-Fi connectivity.
The college provides vibrant campus life to its students and organizes ample activities under various societies and committees such as Aadhar, Archon, Chanakyan, Commerce Society, Economics Society, Mathematics Society, Entrepreneurship cell, Electra, Malhaar and Rachnayan. The institute also conducts various seminars and symposia where inter-department activities are conducted. The college also organizes a three-day cultural fest called CULFEST which is attended by students from across the country. It also conducts Students' Exchange Programme with the University of Busan, South Korea. It also has a Foreign Students' Cell which enables the foreign students to enjoy and learn the culture and language along with their academics.
