Regular vs Distance Learning Admission 2025 at Mumbai University: Which One is Right for You?

The University of Mumbai (known earlier as the University of Bombay) established in 1857 is one of India’s oldest & most prestigious universities.

It offers its students two modes of learning: regular on campus programs & distance learning through its Institute of Distance & Open Learning (IDOL).

With the admission process of Mumbai University underway applicants face an important decision of choosing between the two modes of learning. Understanding the Difference Between Regular Learning & Distance Learning

Regular On Campus Learning

This mode includes traditional classroom learning at different colleges affiliated with Mumbai University. Under this mode students attend lectures, participate in campus activities and engage in laboratory sessions.

Distance Learning

This mode is taught through IDOL which was established in 1971-72 as the Directorate of Correspondence Courses and received its current status in 1993. IDOL provides flexible learning opportunities to those who are unable to attend the regular classes due to several constraints be it geographical, professional or personal.
