Q. What is JoSAA?

Ans. The JoSAA is a counselling authority built to grant admissions into 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 IIITs and 36 GFTIs. Candidates who qualify JEE Advanced or JEE Main will be eligible to participate in the JoSAA counselling.

Q. What is the eligibility criteria for JoSAA?

Ans. The primary eligibility requirement for JoSAA is to qualify JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Those who have secured a valid rank in JEE Main can register for JoSAA for admission into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs whereas JEE Advanced qualified candidates can register for admissions into IITs. Candidates must note that they also require to obtain at least a score of 75% in their higher secondary to be eligible for JoSAA 2025.

Q. How to Register for JoSAA 2025 counselling?

Ans. Candidates can follow the following steps to simply register for the JoSAA counselling:

  • Visit the official website of the JoSAA
  • Log in with the help of your JEE credentials
  • Now fill out the choices and lock it
  • Must keep the deadline in mind to register for the JoSAA counselling
  • The authorities will then release the seat allotment result
  • Now report to the allotted institute for further admission process

Q. How many rounds does JoSAA counselling include?

Ans. There are a total of 6 rounds in JoSAA counselling 2025. The six rounds of JoSAA are as follows:

  1. Initial Seat Allocation
  2. Seat Updation and New Allotment
  3. Additional Upgrades
  4. Continued Allotment and Updation
  5. Before Freezing Round
  6. Final Round

Q. Can I study in IIT through JEE Main?

Ans. No, candidates are required to qualify the JEE Advanced for IITs. JEE main valid ranks are applicable for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Q. Who conducts JoSAA?

Ans. The JoSAA counselling is conducted by the Ministry of Education. Candidates can pursue the admission process for top IITs, NITs, IIITs GFTIs.

Q. What is CSAB?

Ans. CSAB stands for Central Seat Allocation Board and it conducts special counselling rounds after JoSAA rounds are completed, primarily to fill vacant seats in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. IITs are not included in CSAB rounds.

Q. What are the required documents for JoSAA counselling?

Ans. Candidates must possess their JEE admit card, higher secondary scorecard, category certificate, medical certificate, fee payment proof, passport size photographs and more.

Q. What if I can not report after the seat allotment?

Ans. If a student doesn't report (online or in person) after a seat is allotted, his/her seat will be cancelled and they will be disqualified from the counselling process.

Q. Can I update my choice after locking?

Ans. No, after locking the choices, no student will have the chance to update the choices. If the choices aren't locked till the deadline, the selected seats will automatically be finalized and locked by the system.

Q. How are "Freeze", "Float", and "Slide" option different in JoSAA?

  • Freeze: You occupy the designated seat and show no intention to play more rounds.
  • Float: You occupy the seat but are ready to occupy a better seat in a different institute.
  • Slide: You occupy the seat and would prefer to shift to a higher branch of the same institute.

Q. Am I eligible for JoSAA counselling even if I didn't register earlier?

Ans. No, registration in the provided window is compulsory for candidates according to JoSAA. If you do not register in the provided window, you cannot receive any seat allotment.

Q. Is there a seat acceptance fee in JoSAA?

Ans: Yes. After a seat is allocated, it is compulsory to pay the seat acceptance fee:

  • ₹35,000 for General/OBC/EWS candidates
  • ₹15,000 for SC/ST/PwD candidates

This fee will be adjusted in your admission fee later.

Q. Can I withdraw from JoSAA counselling after accepting a seat?

Ans. Yes, you can withdraw your seat until a certain round (typically prior to Round 6). Subsequent withdrawal is not permitted. A portion of the refund is given after deducting processing fees.

Q. Am I eligible to apply for CSAB Special Rounds if I join through JoSAA?

Ans. Yes, but only if you give up your JoSAA seat. You need to withdraw or fail to report to the seat allotted to you prior to CSAB Special Rounds registration.

Q. Will I get a refund if I don't accept admission after booking a seat in JoSAA?

Ans. If you withdraw prior to the last round or fail to report to the institute, you can claim a refund after the processing fees are deducted. No refund is provided after Round 6 if you fail to withdraw in the correct manner.

Q. Is reporting in JoSAA online or offline?

Ans. Preliminary online reporting is conducted. You have to upload documents and answer questions posed by the verification officer. Physical reporting for the final institute only after the final round needs to be done.

Q. Can I fill a choice only for NITs or only IITs during choice filling?

Ans. Yes. You may opt only IITs if you cleared JEE Advanced or only NITs/IIITs/GFTIs if you cleared JEE Main. You may also opt for a combination of both if you are qualified.

Q. If I do not receive any seat during Round 1?

If you do not get a seat in Round 1, you will automatically be included in the subsequent rounds. You don't have to reregister.

Q. Can I miss a round and come back in?

Answer: No. You will be expected to respond to the seat assignment in every round. Not responding to a seat assignment will make you ineligible for the counseling process.

Q. What is "Dual Reporting" in JoSAA?

Ans. If you are getting shifted over amongst IITs and NIT+ systems (IIITs, NITs, GFTIs), you must report to the newly allotted category once more. Otherwise, your seat will be canceled.
