Gujarat University Details

Gujarat University was established in the year 1949 as a measure of decentralization and reorganization of the University education in the province of Bombay. Since its inception, seven more universities have been carved out of it.  Still, the Gujarat University is the largest university in the state catering to the needs of higher education of more than two lakh students scattered over 235 colleges, 15 recognized institutions, and 24 approved institutions. It offers admission to graduate, postgraduate and Doctoral programs through 34 Post-Graduate departments and 221 Post Graduate Centres, the campus is spread across an area of 260 acres.
 
The responsibility of postgraduate instructions rests with the university whereas, at the undergraduate level, it only functions as an affiliating university. Gujarat University has developed phenomenally in the last 70 years to be recognized as a premier University in the country today. It provides education in one of the widest range of disciplines to students from all across the country.

This university was established soon after our country got independent. The formation of this university was recommended in the 1920s by the great leaders like Kasturbhai Lalbhai, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar, and Anandshankar Dhruv. This university and the Gujarat University Courses were evolved out from the Ahmedabad Education Society.

In the year this University was developed by the Gujarat University Act of the Government of Gujarat. This university was developed as a affiliating and teaching university.There are various criteria for Gujarat University admission, they conduct different qualifying exam and through those merit exams students get their score and on the basis of that score the students can take admission in different courses and there are few courses like MBBS, MD where the University’s score of the examination is not valid instead NEET scores are considered.

The University has been contributing to the education and research centres over a decade now and has produced numerous notable alumni
