The Vellore Institute of Technology Research Entrance Examination (VITREE) 2026 for PhD admission is scheduled for today, December 7 . This important exam is for students aiming to join PhD programmes at VIT. All candidates must bring their admit cards. The test will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM across 25 cities in India.
Candidates must report to their exam centre by 9:00 AM . Entry will not be allowed after 9:15 AM . It is important to plan your journey and arrive early to avoid missing the deadline.

If you have not downloaded your VITREE 2026 admit card yet, get it from admissions.vit.ac.in . You need your 10-digit application number, password, and registered email ID to log in.
Check all details on your admit card carefully. This includes your application number, name, programme, question paper code, test city and code, exam date and time, and the centre address. Ensure your photo and signature are correct.
VITREE 2026 Exam Pattern
The VITREE exam is a computer-based test (CBT). It contains 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) , divided into these sections:
- 70 questions: Technical topics related to your PhD programme.
- 15 questions: English communication skills.
- 15 questions: Statistics and probability.
You will get one mark for each correct answer. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers. This means wrong answers will not reduce your total score.
Important Exam Day Rules
Follow these rules on the day of your exam:
- An invigilator will assign your computer. The exam starts at the time shown on your admit card.
- Do not bring any electronic devices (like phones, smartwatches, calculators) or study materials into the exam hall.
- You can carry a pen and a pencil for rough work. A scratch pad will be provided.
- You must stay in your seat until the exam finishes.
Interviews and Results
After the written exam, qualifying candidates will be called for personal interviews. VIT has announced the interview dates and mode (online or offline) for different campuses. The VITREE results for the January 2026 session are expected on December 20 .
