Uttarakhand government schools will begin classes earlier starting May 1 . This change adjusts the summer schedule for all state-run educational institutions.
New School Timing Schedule
Schools will now open at 7:30 AM . Classes will conclude by 1:30 PM . This represents an adjustment from the current 7:45 AM to 2:05 PM schedule.
Students will start their day 15 minutes earlier. However, they will finish school 35 minutes earlier. This allows students to return home before the peak afternoon heat.
Reason for the Change
Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat announced the revised timings. The decision aims to protect students from heatstroke and exhaustion. Young children are most vulnerable to extreme temperatures. The change applies to all government schools. This includes institutions in both plains and hilly regions of Uttarakhand.
Weather Context
The Meteorological Centre in Dehradun has issued weather alerts. Several districts face the risk of high temperatures. The plains are expected to experience a dry, hot spell. Light rain and snowfall are possible at higher altitudes in some hilly areas. Temperatures are projected to remain high throughout May.
Impact and Compliance
Parents and teachers have supported the timing adjustment. The earlier dismissal time is seen as beneficial. Many students commute long distances. They often travel on foot or in non-air-conditioned buses.
The Education Department has directed district education officers. They must ensure strict adherence to the new schedule. The revised timings are effective from Wednesday, May 1 .
