Uttarakhand has replaced its Madrasa Board with the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority. The change took effect on July 1, 2026 . This new authority will regulate all minority educational institutions in the state. This move aligns with the Uttarakhand Minority Educational Institutions Act 2025. It establishes a uniform framework for institutions from Muslim, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Christian, and Parsi communities. The goal is to standardize education. It also aims to align these institutions with the National Education Policy (NEP) and national curriculum. The transition coincides with the start of the 2026-27 academic year.

What Changes for Institutions

Minority educational institutions will now operate under a single regulatory system. Eligible institutions from six recognized minority communities can seek official recognition. These institutions must meet state education standards. They will also need to comply with state curriculum requirements. The authority will oversee academic and administrative matters. Recognition for institutions also falls under its purview.

Authority Composition

The State Minority Education Authority includes a Chairperson. Nominated members represent minority communities. Ex-officio members from education departments are also included. These departments include school education, SCERT, and Minority Welfare. The state government states this composition ensures broad representation.

Government Objectives

The Uttarakhand government aims to modernize minority education. This includes promoting standardized academic practices. Improving educational quality is a key objective. The National Education Policy implementation is also a priority. The authority will ensure subjects like science, math, and social sciences are taught. This will follow the state curriculum framework. Replacing the Madrasa Board expands oversight. This aims for a more inclusive and modern education system. It will strengthen NEP implementation across all minority institutions.
