UPTAC is now accepting applications for approximately 74,000 engineering seats for the 2026 academic year. Admissions to Uttar Pradesh technical institutions will proceed through the Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling (UPTAC) process. This includes B.Tech programs at Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) and its affiliated colleges.

Alternative Admissions Without JEE Main

While most admissions rely on national entrance exam scores, particularly JEE Main, UPTAC offers alternative routes. These options ensure all available seats are filled. Candidates who did not take national entrance exams or were not assigned seats in initial rounds can apply through special counselling sessions. These sessions are open to students based on their 10+2 marks.

Eligibility for Special Rounds

To be eligible for direct or special round admissions, candidates must have passed their 10+2 examinations. A minimum aggregate score of 45% in 10+2 is required. Reserved category students, including SC/ST candidates, need 40% marks. This eligibility applies to B.Tech programs through special and direct admission processes.

How to Apply for Special Rounds

Interested students should visit the official UPTAC counselling website. The portals are uptac.admissions.nic.in or uptac.samarth.edu.in . Applicants must register for the special round counselling. A registration fee is also required. The application form needs to be completed with personal details and 10+2 academic qualifications.

Applicants must upload scanned copies of their 10th and 12th mark sheets. Certificates for category and domicile status are also needed. A valid photo ID proof is mandatory. Students will then select their preferred AKTU-affiliated engineering colleges and B.Tech specializations from the available seat matrix.

UPTAC Admission Quotas

UPTAC counselling allocates seats through different channels. The State Quota , for Uttar Pradesh domiciles, accounts for 85% of total seats. These are primarily filled based on JEE Main ranks. The All India Quota (AIQ) comprises 20% of sanctioned seats. This quota is open to candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh, also through JEE Main.

Private colleges reserve 15% of seats for Management / NRI Quota . Admissions to these seats occur at the institute level. Any remaining vacant seats are filled through Special Rounds . These rounds target candidates with 10+2 PCM merit who have not taken JEE Main.

Key Admission Details

  • Special rounds (Round 6, Round 7) and direct college admissions are available for vacant seats in private colleges.
  • Admission without JEE Main is possible for students meeting 10+2 eligibility criteria.
  • Management and Institutional seats, up to 15% in private colleges, are open for direct admission.
  • Eligibility requires a 10+2 pass with 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST). Specializations may require specific subject combinations.

The official UPTAC admission counselling portals are uptac.admissions.nic.in and uptac.samarth.edu.in .
