Uttar Pradesh schools will now end classes by 12:30 PM due to intense heat. The state government issued new guidelines for all primary and upper primary schools. The change takes effect on April 20, 2026 . This aims to protect students from dangerously high temperatures, which have reached 44°C in cities like Prayagraj and Lucknow.
The directive applies to all government, government-aided, and private schools. This includes institutions affiliated with the CBSE, ICSE, and UP Boards. Students in Grades 1 through 8 will attend classes during morning shifts. The goal is to ensure students are home before peak afternoon heat.
School Schedule Adjustments
The new timings for students in Grades 1-8 are from 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM . Some districts may end classes even earlier, by 12:00 PM. Teachers and staff will work until 1:30 PM. Morning assemblies are scheduled from 7:30 AM to 7:40 AM. A short break for recess will occur between 10:00 AM and 10:15 AM.
District-Specific Orders
Basic Shiksha Adhikaris (BSAs) can adjust schedules based on local heat intensity. Several districts have already implemented specific orders.
