The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney opened its Bengaluru campus on Friday. This marks the sixth foreign university to establish a campus in Karnataka.
UNSW Bengaluru Campus Operations Begin
The new campus is located at Manyata Tech Park. Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Industries M B Patil inaugurated the facility. The campus offers an international curriculum. It follows the same teaching standards as UNSW’s Australian campus. Students can study abroad without relocating.
Initial course offerings include undergraduate degrees in Business, Computer Science, and Data Science and Decisions. A one-year postgraduate program in Cyber Security is also available. The first phase of admissions will accept 30 students per course.
Karnataka's Foreign University Presence Grows
UNSW’s campus brings the total number of foreign universities in Karnataka to six. Other foreign institutions with campuses in the state include the University of Liverpool, Lancaster University, La Trobe University, Flinders University, and Imperial College London. More international universities are expected to open campuses in Karnataka soon.
Minister Patil cited Karnataka’s research ecosystem, industries, and innovation sector as attractive factors. These elements draw global educational institutions to the state.
New Australian Consulate-General Opens in Bengaluru
On the same day, the Australian Consulate-General was inaugurated on Cunningham Road. Minister Patil also opened this facility. Australia has a significant presence in Bengaluru, with over 40 Australian companies operating in the city.
Australian states like Queensland and Victoria have also opened trade and investment offices in Bengaluru. The new Consulate-General aims to strengthen cooperation. This includes encouraging investment, educational partnerships, and innovation between Karnataka and Australia.
The opening of both the UNSW campus and the Australian Consulate-General is expected to enhance education and investment ties. It also supports Bengaluru’s global standing as an education and technology hub.
