The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed all higher education institutions (HEIs) to integrate SWAYAM online courses into their curriculum starting the July 2026 semester . Institutions can now offer up to 40 percent of a program's total semester courses through the SWAYAM platform.
Students will take SWAYAM course examinations on their home university campuses. This eliminates the need for travel to external examination centers, increasing accessibility.
Credit Transfer Mechanism
The UGC has instructed HEIs to distribute an approved list of SWAYAM courses. This list should reach Deans, Heads of Departments, and the SWAYAM University Nodal Officer at each institution. HEIs must also convene meetings to finalize the credit transfer and adoption process for the July 2026 semester.
The list of approved SWAYAM courses will be published on university and institutional websites. It will also appear on official social media handles for wider student awareness.
SWAYAM Course Development
The Ministry of Education has approved a selection of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for the July 2026 semester. These courses are available on the SWAYAM portal.
