The University of East Anglia (UEA) in the UK is now offering Master's degree courses with a practical work experience option. This means students can combine their studies with a real job in an industry. This new option aims to help students get jobs anywhere in the world after they finish their studies.
UEA has teamed up with a company that helps students find placements. This partnership will guide students through learning job skills during their first year and the first part of their second year.
Students who choose a Master's degree with a placement year will need to pay an extra GBP 3,500 (about INR 4.42 Lakh) . This amount is on top of the regular course fees. They can pay this extra fee in two parts.
Over 60 Master's Courses Available
More than 60 postgraduate courses at UEA now include this placement option. These courses are in fields like:
- Business
- Computing
- Engineering
- Media
- Health Sciences
- Environmental Sciences
These Master's degrees will now take two years to complete. The first year focuses on classroom learning, and the second year includes the work placement. The placement is a required part of these specific Master's courses and usually happens in the second year.
What the Placement Involves
The work placement usually lasts for 8 to 10 months and is with a UK company. To be eligible for the placement, students must have finished all their course work, including their main project (dissertation). They also need to meet the university's entry requirements for academics and English language skills.
The deadline to apply for these Master's courses at UEA is July 20, 2026 .
Key Features of the Placement Courses
- In the first year , students will take a year-long module focused on job skills. This includes workshops on writing resumes and preparing for interviews. Students must attend at least 75% of these sessions to pass this module and move to the placement year.
- In the second year , the placement is treated as a main module worth 60 credits. In the first semester of the second year, students will focus on finding a suitable placement. They will receive special help, including 6 in-person workshops. If a student doesn't find a placement, they will work on three industry projects instead.
- At the end of the course , students must submit their work. This will include a collection of job search materials from the first semester and a report reflecting on their placement experience.
