Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has halted plans to merge the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) with the School Education Department. The decision, made in May 2026, means admissions for the 2026-27 academic year will proceed under the existing 10+2 system.
This move reverses a recommendation from the Telangana Education Commission. The commission had proposed discontinuing the junior college system. It suggested implementing a Class 11 and 12 structure similar to the CBSE model. Officials cited the complexity of implementing these changes as the reason for the pause.
