Tamil Nadu has reaffirmed its two-language policy for schools, directly challenging the Central Board of Secondary Education's (CBSE) recent mandate for a three-language approach in higher grades. The state's decision signals a continuation of its established educational framework under the new Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government.
State Stands Firm on Two-Language Policy
School Education Minister A. Rajmohan announced the state's commitment. He confirmed that Tamil Nadu will not adopt the CBSE's three-language policy. This policy requires students in classes 9 and 10 to learn three languages, with at least two being Indian languages. The state government views the imposition of a third language as a move to promote Hindi. Minister Rajmohan stated that Tamil Nadu students will continue to learn only two languages.
New Curriculum and Textbooks Introduced
The government launched nine new textbooks for students in grades 1 to 3. These books align with a revised curriculum designed for early learning. The textbooks focus on foundational skills. They incorporate stories and songs to make learning engaging. Activities and visuals are also included to develop social and self-care skills.
