India has launched a new institution focused on training future leaders for a world that is always changing. This new institution is called the School of Global Leadership (SoGL) . It was started by Bharatiya Engineering Science and Technology Innovation University (BESTIU) , working together with the India Foundation .
At the launch event, SoGL also announced its first program: a one-year, full-time study course named the Post Graduate Programme in Global Leadership (PGP-GL) .
Why a New School for Leadership?
SoGL was created to change how leaders are taught. Current education often focuses on tools but doesn't fully prepare people for unpredictable times and complex situations. SoGL aims to fill this gap by training leaders who can handle uncertainty and make smart decisions in the real world.
The school’s teaching plan brings together important subjects like managing government (governance), making public rules (public policy), planning for the future (strategy), creating new ideas (innovation), and acting with strong moral values (ethics). It strongly focuses on learning by doing. Students will get guidance from experienced mentors and work on actual problems faced by organizations and society.
Leaders Speak About SoGL
India's Union Minister of Education, Dharmendra Pradhan , explained the need for SoGL. He said that traditional leadership training often teaches only basic skills. It struggles to prepare leaders for continuous changes, difficult organizational structures, and important real-life choices. Minister Pradhan highlighted that SoGL will teach leaders to understand entire systems, design better institutions, take ethical responsibility, and turn their thoughts into actions.
Jayant Sinha , who leads SoGL and is a well-known Indian politician and former Member of Parliament, also spoke. He mentioned that BESTIU is a university recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The India Foundation is helping as a knowledge partner. Mr. Sinha stated that SoGL will use India’s own journey of development and its rich cultural history. At the same time, it will join global discussions on leadership.
He believes that many key lessons about leadership today come from countries that are dealing with large populations, many different cultures, and rapid changes. He feels that educational institutions, which are built on these real experiences, can play a big role in shaping how the world thinks about leadership.
The Post Graduate Programme in Global Leadership (PGP-GL)
The PGP-GL is a unique program designed for one year, full-time. It offers students a chance to study and gain experience in several continents. The program combines classroom studies with practical learning. This practical part includes living and working in different countries for short periods, known as international residencies.
Through these residencies, students will experience diverse cultures and understand global challenges firsthand. The countries where students will have these international experiences are:
