New Delhi, November 19, 2025: Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, has launched a new four-year university degree. It is India’s first B.A. (Research) in Interdisciplinary Humanities and Social Sciences (IHS) program. This new course aims to prepare students for the fast-changing world we live in.

The program is designed to help students understand big global trends. These include changes in world politics, climate, artificial intelligence (AI), technology, economy, and culture. It will also teach students skills for many different jobs.

About the B.A. (Research) IHS Program

This new program builds on the university’s strong approach of teaching many subjects together. In the first year, students will study a wide range of topics. These include natural sciences, social sciences, world politics, business, AI, and communication.

After the first year, students will choose one of three main focus areas (specializations). This allows them to study a topic in more detail.

Specialization Options
Sustainability Studies
Archaeology, Heritage and Historical Studies
Society, Culture and Technology

Students can also choose to get a B.A. (Honours) degree or a B.A. (Research) with a minor in another subject. This gives them many options during their studies.

Who Can Apply and Scholarships

Any student from any high school stream can apply for this program. This means students from Science, Commerce, or Arts backgrounds are all welcome.

The university will offer 10 full scholarships to talented students in each batch. These scholarships cover 100% of tuition fees for all four years of the program. Other scholarships and financial help options are also available for students across the university.

What Students Will Learn

The program focuses on learning by doing. Students will get chances for live projects, fieldwork, and trips. They can also take part in exchange programs with other universities and do internships. This helps them gain real-world experience.

A special part of the course is a mandatory AI literacy module. This module will teach students about AI. It will end with an Innovation Hub where students can create AI applications that mix different subjects. This helps students use AI ethically and responsibly.

Career Paths

Graduates from this program will be ready for many job roles. They can work in academic research, private companies, government, or international groups. They can also join start-ups. Specific career paths include:

  • Policy making
  • Sustainability roles
  • Heritage conservation
  • Journalism
  • Design
  • Media
  • Social research
  • Higher education

Professor Rajat Kathuria , Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, said this program changes how Humanities are studied today. He explained that it mixes classroom learning with practical work like projects and exchange programs. This helps students not just know about the world, but also be able to change it. He added that the goal is to create graduates who can think deeply, act responsibly, and find new solutions ethically.

Professor Ananya Mukherjee , Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University, Delhi-NCR, said this program shows the university is one of India's most innovative. She stated that the university wants to create graduates who can think across different subjects, learn deeply, and help society in important ways.

This new B.A. (Research) program encourages students to think beyond old boundaries and turn new ideas into action.
