Schools across India are closely monitoring weather alerts for Friday, July 31, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states. District administrations may declare local school holidays based on intensifying weather conditions and safety concerns.

IMD Weather Forecast for July 31

Active monsoon conditions are expected to continue across North, Central, East, and Northeast India. States including Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and parts of Maharashtra could experience widespread showers. Isolated areas may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The IMD has warned of potential waterlogging and flash floods. Landslides are a risk in hilly regions. Road transport disruptions are also possible in affected districts.

State-Specific School Holiday Updates

Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rainfall is forecast for Himachal Pradesh until August 1. Schools in districts prone to landslides and flash floods might close temporarily if conditions worsen.

Uttarakhand

Authorities in Uttarakhand will monitor weather conditions. Fresh district-level holiday orders could be issued if rainfall intensifies, following recent rain-related issues in districts like Bageshwar.

Punjab

Punjab anticipates thunderstorms and heavy rainfall. Separately, July 31 is already a public holiday in Punjab to observe the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Udham Singh. Government offices and educational institutions are scheduled to be closed.

Haryana and Chandigarh

Heavy rainfall is likely in several Haryana and Chandigarh districts. District administrations will decide on school closures based on local conditions.

Delhi-NCR

Delhi expects light to moderate rain with thunderstorms. Some isolated areas may see heavy showers. No school holidays have been announced as of now.

Uttar Pradesh

Eastern and western districts of Uttar Pradesh could receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Local administrations might announce holidays if flooding or transport disruptions occur.

Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand

Widespread rainfall is predicted for eastern India. Schools are expected to operate normally unless district authorities order closures due to severe weather.

Maharashtra

Parts of Maharashtra will continue to receive monsoon showers. Local authorities may issue precautionary closures in flood-prone districts if rainfall intensifies.

General Holiday Announcements

School holidays due to rainfall are typically declared by district magistrates, collectors, or education departments. These decisions are based on local weather assessments and safety imperatives.

Currently, no state government has issued a statewide school holiday announcement for July 31, 2026, specifically for rainfall. Parents and students should follow announcements from their respective district administrations and schools for the most accurate information.
