Online registration for Class 1 admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act for the 2026-27 academic year in Gujarat starts today, April 4, 2026 . The application window closes on April 17, 2026 . This process provides access to private schools for economically weaker and middle-class families.
Seat Availability and Changes
Approximately 84,000 seats are available statewide for the upcoming academic year. This is a reduction from the 94,000 seats offered last year. Private schools are mandated by RTE rules to reserve 25% of their Class 1 seats for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Parents have been given ample time to prepare necessary documents. The available seats are distributed across different mediums. Over 41,000 seats are in Gujarati medium. English medium schools offer 40,262 seats. Hindi medium has 2,235 seats. Other languages have 320 seats.
New Admission Process Updates
Two significant changes affect this year's admissions. Parents can now select their preferred school shift. Options include morning or afternoon sessions. This school shift selection was not available in previous years.
The priority order for admissions has also been revised. This year, children from reserved categories will receive priority over children who attended anganwadi centers. This change alters the order in which students are considered for admission.
