Rajasthan's education system faces a 7 crore rupee loss . Approximately 1 million textbooks are now waste. This happened due to a syllabus change. The new academic session began April 1 . The state adopted a standardized NCERT syllabus. This aligns with national education standards. However, textbooks based on the old curriculum were already printed. About 5 lakh books for Class 7 were printed. Another 5 lakh books for other classes were also printed.
Syllabus Shift Causes Textbook Waste
The state aimed to modernize its education system. The switch to an NCERT-based syllabus was part of this plan. Printing books before finalizing the syllabus change caused criticism. Divisional Secretary Ranjita Gautam addressed the issue. She stated that excess printing occurred under previous orders. The education department has since distributed 5 crore new NCERT-aligned books. This distribution covers schools statewide.
Investigation into Planning Deficiencies
The 7 crore rupee wastage has raised concerns. Questions about the education board's planning efficiency are being asked. State officials are investigating the bulk printing orders. They are examining how such large orders proceeded. This happened as curriculum change notifications were pending. The state aims to prevent future logistical errors. Such errors cost taxpayers significant funds.
