Teacher job hopefuls in Rajasthan are upset about the low number of vacancies announced for the REET Mains 2025 exam. The Staff Selection Board released a notification in July mentioning only 7,759 teaching posts. This is much less than the 10,000 jobs many students expected.
Over 12 lakh candidates who passed the REET eligibility test earlier this year are now competing for these few positions. This means about one job is available for every 155 students. Many aspirants say they have spent years studying and paying high fees at coaching centres, only to face disappointment.

Exam Dates and Protests
The REET Mains 2025 exams are expected to take place between January 17 and 21, 2026 . However, the low number of vacancies has led to widespread anger among students.
Students Take to Social Media
Since October 24 , many students have expressed their anger online. Hashtags like #थर्ड_ग्रेड_में_पद_बढ़ाओ (Increase third grade posts) and #REET are trending on social media. Students are tagging Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma , Education Minister Madan Dilawar , and RSMSSB Chairman Alok Raj . They are urging leaders to increase the number of posts.
Key Demands from Aspirants
Aspirants have two main demands:
- Increase the number of teaching posts to at least 20,000 to 30,000 .
- Reserve 80% to 90% of the seats for residents of Rajasthan. Many are unhappy that applicants from outside Rajasthan can apply in the general category, which they feel reduces opportunities for local candidates.
Past Recruitments and Protests
Students compare the current recruitment with past years. In 2022 , there were 62,000 posts, and in 2023 , there were 48,000 posts. The 7,759 posts for 2025 are the lowest in recent history. This low number has reminded many of the 2023 protests in Jaipur, where thousands demanded 30,000 teaching jobs. Those promises were not fully met.
Small protests have already happened in districts like Sikar, Nagaur, and Jodhpur. Some coaching centres in Jaipur even closed for a day to show support for the students. Aspirants have warned that if no positive announcement is made soon, bigger protests and marches could start in November .
With youth unemployment in Rajasthan being close to 30% , these teaching jobs offer hope to many who have prepared for years.
