The Rajasthan government has announced a major update for students planning to pursue postgraduate (PG) medical courses. The state has set a new, standard fee structure for all private medical colleges. This new rule will come into effect from the **2025 academic session** for students who get admission through **NEET PG counselling**.

This decision follows many complaints from students and parents about very high fees. Until last year, private medical colleges in Rajasthan often charged between **₹45 lakh** and over **₹1 crore** per year for PG courses. The exact amount depended on the specific course and the type of seat. The new rules aim to make medical education more affordable for many students across the state.

New Fee Structure for PG Medical Courses

Under the government's approved plan, the annual fees for different PG medical courses in private colleges will be significantly reduced. These new fees will apply to both government quota seats and management quota seats in all private medical colleges in Rajasthan. Here is the new annual fee breakdown:

Course TypeAnnual Fee (Starting 2025)
Pre-clinical PG Courses₹2 lakh
Para-clinical PG Courses₹6 lakh
Clinical PG Courses₹32.5 lakh

For instance, a student taking a clinical PG course, which was previously very expensive, will now pay a maximum of **₹32.5 lakh** per year. This is a considerable reduction from fees that could earlier exceed **₹1 crore** annually.

Reason for the Change

The primary reason for this change is to control the excessive fees charged by private colleges. Many students and their families found these high costs a major barrier to accessing quality medical education. By setting a uniform fee, the government hopes to ensure that more deserving students, regardless of their financial background, can pursue medical studies.

Strict Enforcement and Penalties

The State’s Fee Regulatory Committee reviewed the existing fee system. It has now directed all private colleges to strictly follow these newly approved rates. The government has also put strong measures in place for colleges that do not comply with the new fee structure.

  • If any college charges more than the fixed amount, it must refund the extra money to the student.
  • The refund will also include an additional **12% annual interest** on the excess amount collected.
  • The state government has warned that repeated violations could lead to serious actions. These actions might include the college losing its official approval (affiliation) or its students being transferred to other institutions.

Concerns from Private Colleges

While this move brings relief to students, some private college managements have expressed concerns. They state that the new fee limits might impact the financial stability of their institutions. They believe these lower fees could affect their ability to operate and manage their expenses.

Reports indicate that some college representatives are in discussions with the state government. They are requesting a review or revision of the new fee order. The government's decision, however, aims to balance student affordability with college operations.

When Will This Start?

This revised fee order will apply to admissions for the **NEET PG counselling 2025 session**. It will become official once the final notification regarding these fees is released by the Rajasthan government. Students planning to apply for PG medical courses in Rajasthan's private colleges from 2025 should monitor official announcements for further details.
