Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed over 3,000 students at the 57th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on August 8, 2026 . The ceremony began at 11 a.m.
During the event, the Prime Minister inaugurated Param Pragya , a new AI-powered supercomputer. This supercomputer is located at IIT Delhi's Sonipat Campus. It aims to boost India's artificial intelligence capabilities and research.
Param Pragya combines the power of thousands of computers. It can perform complex calculations quickly. The supercomputer will support advanced AI applications and cutting-edge research.
The AI supercomputer will enhance IIT Delhi's work in artificial intelligence. It will also support data science, advanced computing, and interdisciplinary research. This is according to an official press release.
Awards Presented
Prime Minister Modi also presented academic awards to students. These awards recognize academic excellence.
Recognized students received honors such as the President’s Gold Medal. Other awards included the Director’s Gold Medal and the Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal. Perfect Ten Gold Medals were also awarded.
The ceremony recognized the achievements of 587 PhD scholars among the graduating students.
