NMC Warns Students Against Fake Medical Colleges and Unapproved Foreign Courses

NMC News Alert

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an important advisory for students and their parents. It warns students against Indian unapproved medical colleges and foreign illicit medical courses. Such medical colleges are not duly authorized by law and can get students in trouble down the road.

Only NMC-Approved Colleges Are Legal

The NMC clearly said that only those medical colleges that are mentioned on its own official website can offer MBBS and other medical degrees in India. If any college is not mentioned, then it is illegal and is breaking the rule.

No Direct Admissions by NMC

The NMC also clarified that it does not admit students directly to any of the medical colleges. Students have to go through the regular process, which is qualifying for NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test).

Legal Action Filed on Two Institutions

Two institutions that broke the rules have filed legal action against NMC:

  1. Singhania University, Rajasthan – for MBBS with NMC clearance
  2. Sanjiban Hospital and Medical College, Howrah (West Bengal) – for operating a medical course illegally

These colleges cannot issue medical degrees, and the students who study from them may not be issued a valid medical license.

Study Medicine Abroad Rules (FMGL Regulations, 2021)

The NMC has put some fundamental rules under the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations, 2021, for such students who are eager to study MBBS overseas:

Requirement

Details

Course Duration

Minimum of 54 months in one institution

Internship

12 months of internship at the same foreign university

Clinical Training

Must be completed in the same institution and same country

Medium of Instruction

Must be in English

Subjects

Must include all mandatory subjects listed in SSchedule I

Registration Abroad

Must be eligible for a medical license in that country (same as locals)

Internship in India

Must complete a 12-month supervised internship in India for permanent registration

If a student is not in these provisions, they could be debarred from being registered as an Indian doctor.

No Registration for Fake College Graduates

If a student has graduated from an unapproved or counterfeit medical college in India or abroad, they will not be allowed to sit for licensing exams like FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination). They will not be allowed to be registered as a physician in India as well.

NMC's Student and Parent Tip

Here is a tip provided by the NMC:

  • Don't go to colleges that avoid NEET.
  • Always verify whether a college is approved by visiting the NMC website.
  • Never give money to unapproved colleges or agents.
  • Report unapproved medical colleges to the NMC or local law enforcement authorities.

Be Alert and Stay Safe

Selecting a good medical college is a big decision. Cross-check approvals always, don't shortcut, and don't let your dream of becoming a doctor be undermined by false promises.
