The National Medical Commission (NMC) has ordered 70 medical colleges to install CCTV cameras across their campuses. These institutions must provide live access of the camera feeds to the NMC's Command and Control Centre. The directive aims to enforce compliance with new regulations for medical education facilities.

CCTV Installation Mandate

The NMC issued an official notification on July 6 . It mandates the installation of at least 25 CCTV cameras on medical college campuses. This requirement stems from the Undergraduate Minimum Standard Requirements (UGMSR 2023), Postgraduate Minimum Standard Requirements (PGMSR 2023), and the Establishment of Medical Institutions, Assessment & Rating Regulations, 2023. Colleges must link their Network Video Recorder (NVR) systems to the NMC's central monitoring network.

Location and Storage Requirements

CCTV cameras must be installed at specific, prescribed locations. The live feed from these cameras is to be shared with the NMC. Additionally, medical institutions must maintain a 30-day playback history of the recorded footage. The installation of NVR systems is also compulsory for all facilities.

Colleges Nationwide Affected

The list of medical colleges subject to this directive spans multiple states. These include institutions in Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal. The NMC has identified and shared a list of colleges that have not yet linked their NVRs.

Examples of Affected Institutions

  • ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Beltola
  • Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Visakhapatnam
  • Nimra Institute of Medical Sciences, Krishna Dist., A.P.
  • Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College, Gaya
  • Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr. RML Hospital, New Delhi

NMC's Enforcement Efforts

The NMC stated it regularly follows up with medical colleges regarding CCTV system installation and feed linkage. Despite continuous efforts, some undergraduate and postgraduate medical colleges remain non-compliant. A list of these non-compliant institutions has been circulated by the commission.

Immediate Compliance Required

The NMC has directed all identified institutions to comply immediately. Colleges facing queries or requiring technical support can reach out to support.cctv@nmc.org.in . The commission emphasizes the urgency of this directive to ensure regulatory adherence.
