National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela launched four new degree programs on May 13, 2026 . These courses aim to address the demand for professionals in fields like Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductors, and Quantum Technology. The new offerings align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
New Programs for 2026-27
NIT Rourkela will offer two undergraduate (B.Tech) programs and two postgraduate (M.Tech) programs. The B.Tech programs have an initial intake of 25 students each. Admission to these will be based on JEE Main scores.
The two new B.Tech programs are in Mathematics and Computing, and Engineering Physics. These courses prepare students for advanced technical roles.
Graduate Level Offerings
At the postgraduate level, NIT Rourkela is introducing an M.Tech in Semiconductor Devices and Technology with an intake of 15 students. Another M.Tech program is in Machine Learning and Signal Analysis, with an intake of 12 students.
Admission to the M.Tech programs requires a valid GATE score. These programs support national initiatives like the India Semiconductor Mission and the National Quantum Mission.
