About the NIFTEE Entrance Exam

The NIFTEE entrance exam is the gateway for students to get admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate courses at different NIFT campuses across India. These courses cover subjects like design, fashion technology, and management. NIFT is a well-known institution for fashion education in the country.

How to Prepare for NIFTEE 2026

The NIFTEE exam is competitive and is often considered challenging. Therefore, it is wise to start your preparation early. The exam has multiple parts, including written tests and a Situation Test or Personal Interview round.

Written Exam Sections

For Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) courses, students must prepare for both the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT).

  • Creative Ability Test (CAT): This part of the exam tests your drawing skills and creative thinking. It focuses on how well you can draw and visually express your ideas. If you are not already good at drawing, this section can be difficult. Starting your practice early is very important for CAT.

  • General Ability Test (GAT): This test checks your general knowledge, current affairs, logical reasoning skills, and English language abilities. Like CAT, early preparation for GAT helps you cover all the necessary topics thoroughly and improve your skills.

NIFT Situation Test

Students applying for B.Des and M.Des programs also have to take a Situation Test. In this test, you will receive a set of materials and a question. You will need to create a 3D model based on the question asked. You are given 2 hours to develop your concept and complete the model.

  • Materials Provided: NIFT will provide all the items you need for the Situation Test. You cannot bring or use any outside materials. Common materials that may be given include glaze papers, plasticine clay, copper wire, ivory sheets, cardboard, thermocol (both thick and thin), kite papers, handmade sheets, coloured clay, cellophane, fabric, thread, ribbon, straw, and aluminium foil.

  • Task Description: You must use the provided materials to make a specific 3D model. After you finish the model, you also need to write a description explaining your design. A jury will later evaluate both your model and your written explanation.

  • Skills Assessed: This test measures your ability to work with different materials and manage your time effectively. Finishing the task within the two-hour limit is closely monitored and is a key part of your evaluation.

Make sure you understand all the requirements and meet the deadlines to apply successfully for NIFTEE 2026.
