Snakebite Incident Details
Four girl students residing in a hostel at a higher secondary residential school in Lohardaga district, Jharkhand, were bitten by a snake. The students were sleeping on the ground floor of the hostel after dinner when the attack happened. One student died from her injuries. The other three students were taken for medical treatment. One student's condition was critical and she was transferred to RIMS, Ranchi for specialized care.
NHRC Takes Action
The NHRC initiated a suo moto inquiry. This means the commission can investigate without receiving a formal complaint. The NHRC considers the incident a potential violation of human rights. It has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand.

The notice demands a detailed report within two weeks. This report should include the current health status of the injured students. The NHRC will review the findings to determine the circumstances of the incident.
