New Leadership at CBSE
Lokhande Prashant Sitaram now leads the CBSE. He replaces former Chairman Rahul Singh. Varun Bhardwaj, Director at the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, is the new Secretary. He replaces Himanshu Gupta.
Secretary's Tenure and Restrictions
Varun Bhardwaj's appointment is on deputation. His tenure lasts until September 2027. This is part of the Central Staffing Scheme. Former Secretary Himanshu Gupta faces restrictions. He cannot accept central deputation until December 2030.
Ongoing Board Challenges
The CBSE is currently dealing with several problems. These include controversies surrounding the new On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 answer sheets. Portal glitches and answer sheet errors have also been reported. Allegations of hacking have surfaced.
Class 12 Revaluation and Verification
The CBSE has opened its portal for Class 12 revaluation and verification applications. Students can apply from June 2, 2026, to June 6, 2026 . A fee is required for each subject submitted. Only students who have obtained scanned copies of their answer sheets are eligible to apply.
