Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has ordered a crackdown on fake Telegram channels spreading false information and purported paper leaks for competitive exams. The directive follows a meeting with social media company representatives to address exam integrity concerns.
Crackdown on Misinformation
The Ministry of Education flagged a rise in unverified posts circulating online. These posts often claim to be leaked exam papers, answer keys, or cheating guides. Telegram channels, known for their anonymity, are a primary platform for this dissemination.
The ministry alerted platforms to the spread of such content. It stated this misinformation causes confusion and creates an unfair advantage. Such activities undermine the credibility of national examinations and student well-being.
Platform Responsibilities
Social media firms are tasked with enhancing systems to rapidly detect and remove exam-related violations. This includes faster removal of channels and posts sharing leaked material.
Platforms must also improve tools for tracing sources of violations when legally required. Regular cooperation between law enforcement, exam officials, and social media companies is mandated. Companies must submit clear action plans regarding false or harmful exam information.
NEET UG Re-examination Security
Minister Pradhan also reviewed security measures for the upcoming NEET UG re-examination. The goal is to ensure a fair and secure testing environment.
Multi-layered precautions are in place. These include strict candidate verification, enhanced CCTV surveillance, and biometric verification at exam centers. Secure logistics for question papers and rigorous invigilation procedures are also implemented.
