The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the NEET UG 2026 re-examination today. Approximately 23 lakh students are taking the test. The exam aims to fill seats in medical and dental colleges nationwide.
NTA Faces Scrutiny
Today's re-examination serves as a critical test for the NTA. This follows a major paper leak that eroded public trust. The leaks involved systematic dissemination of the question paper. This raised serious questions about the agency's security protocols.
The NTA was established in 2017. Its goal was to conduct transparent and efficient national examinations. Past technical issues have occurred. However, the recent paper leak directly challenged public confidence.
Re-examination Preparations
The Ministry of Education (MoE) and NTA have implemented extensive measures for the re-examination. The Indian Air Force is involved in transporting question papers. Nearly 2 lakh personnel are deployed for security.
Security protocols include:
- Communication lockdown for exam setters.
- Strict military supervision for transport and storage.
- A ban on the social media platform Telegram until June 22 to prevent misinformation.
Standard security measures remain in place. These include frisking, biometric identification, and CCTV surveillance. State governments are also providing support. Movement restrictions are in effect in many cities during the exam period. Curfews are announced in locations like Cyberabad and Dehradun.
Restoring Trust
Conducting a secure examination is a primary objective. However, restoring trust requires more. The NTA needs to build a system of checks and balances. Public accountability is essential.
Students began arriving at examination centers across the country at 11 am. The NTA must ensure transparency, efficiency, and vigilance. It must also acknowledge its moral responsibility to students.
