The Federation of Indian Medical Association (FAIMA) has filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking the dissolution or restructuring of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The move follows the cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 exam due to alleged systemic failures in its conduct.

FAIMA's Supreme Court Plea

FAIMA's appeal to the Supreme Court cites widespread system failure in the administration of the national-level medical entrance exam. The organization is asking for drastic action against the NTA, which is responsible for conducting the examination.

The plea requests the formation of a high-level monitoring committee. This committee would be chaired by a retired Supreme Court Justice. Its role would be to oversee the conduct of a fresh examination.

Proposed Changes for Future Exams

FAIMA's appeal also calls for a fundamental shift in the examination format. The organization advocates for a transition from the current pen-and-paper mode to a Computer Based Test (CBT) system.

Additionally, the plea emphasizes the need for enhanced security measures. FAIMA is requesting the implementation of digital locking mechanisms for question papers. This aims to prevent future security breaches and ensure a leak-proof selection process for medical aspirants.

The legal action taken by FAIMA represents a significant challenge to the NTA's operational integrity. The Supreme Court's consideration of this plea could lead to major reforms in the conduct of national entrance examinations.
