More than 273,000 candidates have registered for the NEET PG 2026 exam. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate is scheduled for August 30 . This year's registration total represents a 12.5% increase from last year.
NEET PG 2026 Registration Data
In 2025, 242,493 candidates registered for NEET PG. A total of 230,114 appeared for the exam that year. This year's registration number stands at 273,183 candidates. The exam will take place in one shift.
The examination will be held in approximately 340 cities. More than 1,300 examination centers will be used nationwide.
Health Minister Addresses Exam Preparedness
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda reviewed NEET PG 2026 preparations on August 1. He met with officials from the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Technology partners and other stakeholders also attended the review meeting.
Minister Nadda urged students to disregard any rumors about question paper leaks. He stated that question papers are finalized through a secure, encrypted process. This process occurs shortly before the exam begins.
Students should report suspicious activity to NBEMS. Any attempts at unfair practices should also be reported to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Key Changes for NEET PG 2026
The government announced reforms for NEET PG 2026 on August 1. Candidates can now choose three preferred examination cities. Previously, exam cities were allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The exam pattern has been revised. The number of questions decreased from 200 to 180. The total exam duration remains 210 minutes. This change allows more time per question.
City intimation slips will be issued three weeks before the exam. This advance notice helps candidates plan travel and accommodation.
