The Supreme Court of India is hearing petitions today about the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 . This hearing is important for thousands of medical students across India. Its main goal is to bring more transparency and clarity to the NEET PG exam process. Students are keenly waiting for clear updates on counselling dates and admission schedules for postgraduate medical courses.

The court will address several critical issues. These include demands for the release of the complete question paper, instead of just a question ID, after the exam. Students also want appropriate answer keys to be made public. Other matters include how reservation policies are applied during admissions. These requests aim to make the NEET PG exam as clear and fair as other major national-level entrance tests.

Key Demands from Students

About 11 petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court regarding NEET PG 2025. These petitions ask the Apex Court to instruct the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) to improve transparency. The main points raised in these petitions are:

  • Release of the full question paper after the exam.
  • Publishing the correct and appropriate answer key.
  • Clear guidelines on the reservation policy during admissions.

These demands reflect the students' need for a more open and accountable examination system.

Supreme Court's Previous Directions

The Supreme Court has been looking into these matters for some time. During a hearing held in September 2025 , a bench including Chief Justice of India Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran moved the petitions to a different bench led by Justice Pardiwala . Justice Pardiwala's bench then directed NBEMS to ensure greater transparency in the NEET PG 2025 examination process.

In a later hearing, the court instructed NBEMS to fix all transparency issues within two weeks . The court also questioned a "miscommunication" that led to a change in the policy for showing answer keys. This shows the court's focus on ensuring fair and clear procedures for the exam.

Delay in Counselling Schedule

The results for the NEET PG 2025 exam were already declared in August 2025 . However, the exact dates for the counselling process have not been announced yet. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and different state authorities have started the initial registration for counselling. Still, many key dates remain unknown. These include:

  • The last date for registration.
  • Dates for choice filling (when students select their preferred colleges and courses).
  • Dates for seat allotment (when students are assigned seats).
  • The final deadline for admissions.

This delay causes considerable uncertainty for candidates. It pushes back the start of their academic journey for postgraduate medical studies. This situation also creates concerns about the availability of new doctors and specialists in the healthcare sector.

Impact on Thousands of Candidates

The Supreme Court's decision today is expected to have a significant impact. It can provide much-needed clarity on the NEET PG counselling process. For thousands of candidates who have been waiting anxiously, this decision could mean the quick release of the full counselling schedule. This would allow them to finally move forward with their admissions to various postgraduate medical specialisations across India.

The court's aim is to ensure that the process is transparent and that students receive all necessary information promptly. Following the court's directions, NBEMS and MCC are expected to release detailed timelines and clear up any confusion regarding the exam and admission procedures. Students should monitor official websites for immediate updates.
