New Delhi: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has extended the deadline for students to resign from their NEET PG 2025 seats. Medical students who were allotted seats in Round 1 or Round 2 of counselling now have until December 26, 2025, 6 PM , to give up their seats. This change comes after many students asked for more time.
The extension allows students to make better choices, especially since results for state-level medical counselling have also been announced. Many students found themselves in a situation where they had a seat in both national (NEET PG) and state counselling. The MCC made this decision to help these students decide which seat they want to keep without losing their security deposit or affecting future chances.
Why the Deadline Was Extended
The MCC received many requests from students. These students wanted to resign from their Round 1 or Round 2 NEET PG seats because the results for state counselling were announced around the same time. This overlap made it difficult for them to choose their preferred college or course within the original timeframe. To address these concerns, the MCC decided to give students more time.
An official statement from the MCC said, "MCC is in receipt of many requests from PG candidates who want to resign their Round1 or Round-2 seats since the state counselling results are being declared. In this regard, the competent authority has decided to extend the time of Resignation for such a candidate."
Who Can Resign Their Seats?
Not all students can resign their seats. The MCC has set clear rules for who is eligible:
- Candidates who received a new seat in Round 2 and have already joined that college can resign.
- Candidates whose seats were upgraded in Round 2 and who joined their new (upgraded) college can also resign.

How to Resign from Your NEET PG 2025 Seat
Students must follow specific steps to resign properly. It is important to complete these steps correctly to avoid problems later.
Step 1: Report to Your College
Candidates must go in person to their allotted medical college. All resignation paperwork and formalities need to be completed physically at the college.
Step 2: Confirm Online Resignation Letter
After completing the physical process, students must make sure the college authorities generate their resignation letter online through the official MCC portal. This online generation is very important for the resignation to be official.
Step 3: Act Quickly
Students should not delay. They must complete the resignation process within this four-day extension period. If they do not follow the guidelines or miss the deadline, they might lose their security deposit. Also, not resigning correctly can affect their eligibility for future counselling rounds for other medical courses.
This extension gives students a crucial chance to reconsider their choices and avoid problems with their admissions process for postgraduate medical courses.
